Princeton University Changes the Testing Policies to Reduce AI Cheating

Princeton University is changing their policies to go with the times that we are living.  With the use of AI, it’s oftentimes easy for students to cheat on their school work, exams, and projects.  Colleges have varying policies, but Princeton has just voted to make a pretty big change starting July 1st.

Princeton has relied on a 133 year old Honor Code which students sign and pledge not to cheat and also report anyone who they see doing so.  But after seeing a spike in AI enabled dishonesty, the staff at the University voted to bring proctors back to the exam rooms.

Princeton’s dean of the college, Michael Gordin had reported that there were significant numbers of undergrads and faculty requesting the change.  The Wall Street Journal had cited a few weeks ago that 44.6% said they knew about someone else cheating but didn’t report it, and 0.4% did report a cheating violation.

The new procedures will also include fewer take-home exams, but rather an increase in oral defenses and oral exams.
