World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off Winner Announced

The 52nd World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, south of San Francisco took place on Monday and a winner was determined!  This year, the winning pumpkin weighed 2346 pounds!   Brandon Dawson, a California engineer from Santa Rosa, California, enjoyed the victory this year.  His giant pumpkin is roughly the same size as a small car or a large buffalo.

Dawson said that he has been growing massive pumpkins for five years.  He has mastered the correct watering and sunlight to help his pumpkin grow to the gigantic size.  He stated that the giant pumpkins can grow by 50-70 pounds per day!

Dawson’s two children ages 4 and 6 have been watching their father grow the pumpkin and were there to celebrate the victory.  As Dawson was declared the winner, his two children sat on top of the giant pumpkin.  The pumpkin champ won $20,000 as a prize for growing the heaviest pumpkin.

Last year, Dawson was the runner up in the contest.
