A recent poll of Americans was released by the Better Business Bureau’s Give.org and showed that the number of Americans who are giving to charity has declined. The reason given states that many people feel as though the wealthier people can afford to give more and should be doing the donations. Many people who have stopped giving to charity say that they simply cannot afford to give.
The number of people who give to charity has dropped 13.4% after inflation, which has led to one of the biggest declines in recent decades.
Many nonprofits have attracted wealthy donors and people of more modest means do not believe that their gifts are needed nor would make an impact.
Over 55% of those polled say they stopped giving to charity because they don’t earn enough.
The poll also found that the older generations give the most.
People who increased their contributions said one of the biggest factors in giving is trust and believing the cause is worthwhile.
