Last week OpenAI revealed an incredible text-to-video model called Sora that can create realistic videos in mere seconds.
OpenAI is also responsible for its ChatGPT that helped to launch the artificial intelligence boom.
This new technology, Sora can produce a 60 second video in about a minute from a text that is submitted.
This technology is currently not available to the public. OpenAI insists that Sora will “reject prompts that are in violation of our usage policies, like those that request extreme violence, sexual content, hateful imagery, celebrity likeness, or the IP of others.”
Currently, the only way to see Sora video creations is to view samples of them on X that are posted by OpenAI.
There are a multitude of concerns about this new technology. Some potential issues include the following: it may put a lot of digital artists out of work, spread online disinformation, cause tension with certain groups, replace workers on animated films, wreak political havoc, etc.
Guidelines will need to be placed on this type of technology, but when looking back in history we know that there are always those who will find ways to disregard the boundaries. This is an example of what our nation will be dealing with as the technology of AI infiltrates into our lives. It’s both thrilling and daunting.
