Incredible Feat of Physical and Mental Endurance– Climbing the Whole Enchilada

Every year thousands of mountain bikers attempt to ride the treacherous, well known trails in Moab, Utah.  One of the toughest and most dangerous trails is called The Whole Enchilada.  It’s 27 miles and drops some 8000 feet where it begins in the La Sal Mountains.  As the bikers ride downhill, there are hairpin turns and ledges.  Nothing is provided to offer protection.  It’s quite a feat to even attempt it.   It’s some of the toughest and most dangerous mountain biking in the United States.

Professional mountain biker Braydon Bringhurst decided to attempt The Whole Enchilada going UP! His idea was to ride up the trail without hopping and pedaling the whole time.  That had never been tried.  Bringhurst has a list of athletic accomplishments including BMX, slope skiing, and pole vaulting.  Also, his mental strength has been a focus for him as well. While at BYU, he took a sports psychology class 10 times. In order to prepare for this incredible feat, he trained for over a year.

Bringhurst finished this feat in October 2021 within 24 hours of the first snow of the year, which dumped 18 inches on the upper trail.

A full documentary has been made called 8600ft, which follows this incredible accomplishment.
