Dying To Serve Tour– A Bitter/Sweet Endeavor

Doug Ruch, a 55 year old man from San Antonio, Texas, is on a mission that he calls the “Dying to Serve Tour.”  It’s definitely a bitter/sweet story because it all started when Ruch was told by his doctors that he likely has 18 months to live after a prostate cancer diagnosis.  Ruch reports in the Guardian that he “thought to myself, I have two choices—I can sit at home and wait to die, or I can go out and live.”  He has decided the latter.

Ruch has so far gone to sixteen states.  Most of what he has done there is to help deliver meals to those who cannot leave their homes.  However, as he is actively battling cancer, Ruch has his own limitations with his physical abilities.  He has set up a Go Fund Me page to help his cause.

Ruch hopes to inspire others to serve and fight their health struggles.  He believes that he can do a lot of good with the time that he has left.  He will continue to travel to other states as long as he is physically able.
