One of the highest paid YouTube creators, Jimmy Donaldson, funded 1000 ten-minute surgeries last week that restored the vision via a MSICS procedure (manual small incision cataract surgery.) This procedure “vacuums” off cataracts that are causing cloudiness in the patient’s eyes. The surgeon then implants an artificial lens, which restores the vision impairment. The results are incredible.
The YouTuber posted an eight-minute video that featured several of the lucky patients along with their reactions. In just two days, the video has gotten over 61 million views.
Donaldson worked with an organization called See International, which provided volunteer doctors to perform the procedures.
“Half the blindness in the world is people who need a 10-minute surgery,” one of the participating surgeons says in the video.
Donaldson encourages his viewers to donate to See International, which is a nonprofit. He believes that donations will help to end preventable blindness and restore people’s vision and wellbeing.
