CAST is Supporting Immigrant Survivors

One of the amazing organizations that Mercy Lab has been partnering with is CAST (Coalition Against Sex Trafficking LA).  Recently, CAST shared an incredible case of a man named Romeo who came to California from Guatemala to work on a strawberry farm.  When he arrived and began working, he quickly realized that he had been lied to and the deal that was made was fraudulent.  After some time, a community organizer visited the workplace and Romeo was able to share his situation. This prompted an investigation and Romeo lost his job and was deported without pay back to Guatemala. Romeo contacted the community organizer, who referred him to CAST.  With the support of Cast’s staff attorneys and pro bono lawyers, Romeo and his wife, and his sons all received T-visas which allowed them to be in the United States and get work permits.  Now, three years later, Romeo’s whole family has Green Cards and he is employed as a bar manager at a restaurant in California.  Romeo’s case played an important role for CAST to establish an Impact Litigation Unit. Thank you for all of the hard work that you’re doing, CAST employees.  And all the best to Romeo and his family.
