Camp Boggy Creek Brings the Horses Back for Family Weekends

After three years of postponement because of Covid, Camp Boggy Creek in Eustis, Florida, is welcoming back horses and horse volunteers for the family weekends this spring.  Camp Boggy Creek  makes it possible for children with serious illnesses to enjoy a camp experience in a safe, medically-sound environment.

This 232 acre camp allows children ages 7-16 who have been diagnosed with a serious illness to come for family weekends or a full camp experience in the summer.  There are many activities that the kids can enjoy including archery, arts and crafts, ropes tower, swimming, fishing and boating, and horseback riding.

The volunteers for the horses are from the local area.  Many of them bring their horses to the Camp for the kids to ride and enjoy during the family weekends.  There are also many volunteers who come to walk alongside the Campers as they ride and even help them choose a helmet that fits.  The parents/guardians and siblings can ride the horses during the family weekends, too, which makes it really fun to get the horses lined up for pictures.

The Campers enjoy the interaction with the horses and the volunteers.  For many, it is their first time on a horse.
