Adventure Racing Through a Hurricane

Adventure racing is definitely for people who are not only physically strong, but also who are mentally tough. This past year’s Adventure Race was quite an ordeal.

The Adventure Racing Association’s National Championships took place in September in West Virginia’s Monongahela National Forest.  This is an extreme competition that is overnight– 30 hours and 120 miles.

The racers have to find the 50 checkpoints that are set out on the 120 mile course before the 30 hour timer for the race ends.

This past year, the race took place right as Hurricane Helene was hitting the area, which made it even more challenging.  The course had falling trees, debris, muddy trails, and chilly, wet weather.  It made some parts of the course slippery and somewhat dangerous.

Despite the treacherous situations, Team WEDALI won the mixed division and Rootstock Racing — Women won the women’s race.
