Basketball Legend Michael Jordan Donates Big to Make-A-Wish to Celebrate his 60th Birthday

To honor his 60th birthday, Michael Jordan made the largest-ever donation to the Make-A-Wish organization this week. According to the Associated Press, Jordan donated $10 million to Make-A-Wish, which will create an endowment to provide funding to make future wishes possible for kids with serious illnesses.

Jordan stated in a news release, “For the past 34 years, it’s been an honor to partner with Make-A-Wish and help bring a smile and happiness to so many kids.”

Jordan has given several significant donations over the past few decades. In 2020, he and the people at Jordan Brand invested $100 million to fight racial inequality over the next ten years. In 2021, he also has given money towards the building of two new medical clinics in North Carolina, his home state.

“Everyone knows about Michael’s legacy on the basketball court, but it’s what he has consistently done off the court when no one’s watching that makes him a true legend for wish families and the wider Make-A-Wish community,” said Leslie Motter, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish America. “Michael using his birthday as a chance to make history for Make-A-Wish speaks to the quality of his character and his loyal dedication to making life better for children with critical illnesses. We hope that the public will be inspired to follow in his footsteps by helping make wishes come true.”

Jordan’s birthday is February 17.
