It’s Not Always about the Money

Most people affiliate donations of money when they think about a charity, fundraisers, or non-profit organizations, but there are many other ways in which help can be given towards a cause that someone is passionate about.

First of all, consider using a social network to share your thoughts about a cause.  You can also link a charity’s posts to your social channel and show support for the message.  This helps to spread awareness to others who know you and may be interested in the same ideas.

Staying informed about causes that you’re passionate about is a helpful way to speak to others about any news, volunteer opportunities, or other ways to be involved.  Let your friends and family know what you’re participating in and they may want to join you.

Depending on the causes that you’re passionate about, there may be supplies or donations of items that can be given in lieu of a monetary donation.  Sometimes food, clothing, and other supplies are exactly what organizations need.

One of the gifts that our Foundation, Mercy Lab donates is to provide a volunteer for service. It is the giving of time.  We have Board members who share expertise in various ways and also show up to mentor in schools and at other events.  This is essential for many organizations to have reliable volunteers who can help do the work that is needed.

Lastly, if you find yourself shopping on platforms like Amazon, you can donate a portion of your purchases to the charity of your choice.  Find the Amazon Smile rewards program on their site and connect that to a charity of choice.

Most people want to get involved to assist various causes, but sometimes donating in other ways is more feasible than just cutting a check.
