Worm Charming for Charity

This has got to be one of the most creative ways I’ve ever heard of to raise money for a charitable cause. Who knew that hundreds of people would come out to an open plot of land and try to coax earthworms out of the ground? Yes, they really do. This is called Worm Charming.
Apparently, this is a big hit especially in the UK. In fact, the World Worm Charming Championship 2018 is set to take place on Saturday, June 23, in Cheshire, UK. Also known as fiddling or grunting, the exercise of extracting earthworms from the ground is done all around the world. It is usually performed by someone with the purpose of collecting bait for fishing.
One of the unique ways that seems to be effective is by using a rod or pitchfork to create vibrations in the dirt. It is said to be the most successful method, hence the tools in hand of the people wishing to participate in this unusual endeavor.
The participants get a marked plot of land (the amount of space varies) that they are able to work. A specific amount of time is set, and when the official GO is given, the charming begins. The object is to get as many worms out of the individual plot of land as possible. (The record is 567 set in 2009).
As I read about this interesting and creative fundraising idea, it really made me ponder about other ways that our nonprofit organizations can think outside of the norm to create unique events to raise money and bring awareness.
What other inventive ways can you think of in order to raise money for the nonprofits that you care about?
